The Mehraz Glass Dome project in Zafaranieh is one of Archi Taj’s outstanding projects in the field of glass structure design and implementation. One of the main challenges of this project was to convert the square void of the building into a circular section suitable for installing the dome. Archi Taj’s design team solved this problem by constructing a metal frame from steel profiles.
The engineering team used steel sections to create the dome frame. After bending these sections according to the technical drawings, they were connected to each other with precise welding. In the center of this structure, a circle with a diameter of 2.5 meters was installed, which harmoniously connected the corners of the square to the flat laths.
All stages of the design and implementation of this structure were carried out in accordance with the regulations of the engineering system and all necessary approvals were received from the relevant organization. After completing the construction stages, the metal skeleton was coated with electrostatic paint to be resistant to atmospheric conditions and sulfate.
The stained glass windows of this dome are designed in a classic fantasy style. A combination of cut glass, colored glass with turquoise and green shades, and kiln-painted glass has been used. The kiln paintings with red designs are baked at a temperature of 800 degrees after painting on the glass. This process ensures that the glass remains intact and does not change over time.
After the glass slats were manufactured and installed, polymer sheets were installed on the dome. To prevent water penetration, the seams of the sheets were covered with pressurized rubber and then protected with aluminum sections. These measures make the dome resistant to weather changes and humidity.
The Mehraz glass dome project demonstrates Archi Taj’s expertise in implementing stained glass structures, which are at a very high level in terms of both beauty and functionality.
