The Urmia Glass Dome project was designed and implemented by Archi Taj Group in 2015. This glass dome was installed on the top floor of a duplex residential building and brought natural light to both floors of the unit. The dome’s location above the staircase added more light to the interior space.
Initially, there was an old dome in this space that served the purpose of letting in light and preventing water infiltration. However, it did not have a special impact on the environment in terms of aesthetics and did not meet the client’s expectations. After consultations between Engineer JamehBozorg and Engineer Jabbari, it was decided to preserve the old dome and install a new glass dome underneath it.
Archi Taj Group designed a lightweight and durable metal frame for this project. The use of shield sections helped reduce costs, and the profiles were cold-rolled to the designer’s desired shape. Also, electrostatic paint was used to cover the frame to increase the durability of the structure.
Ms. Zahra Tot Zari, the glass designer of this project, suggested the Islamic and Khatai styles, and after approval, the steps of making the stained glass windows began. In this project, 12 glass panes were made, which were a combination of opal glass and cut glass with various colors. The design of this glass dome, using warm colors and patterned glass, gave a unique effect to the interior space. The passage of natural light through this dome created a colorful and attractive space on the floor of the hall.
